Site preparation before your shear arrives

A gantry shear arrives on a flat rack, not in a box you can wheel into place. The work that makes installation quick is done before the container leaves — and most of it is a site question, not a machine question.

1. Foundation

The machine sits on a reinforced base sized to its footprint and weight, with anchor bolt positions taken from the layout drawing supplied with the machine. Two things go wrong here:

  • Concrete not cured before the machine is set. Anchor bolts pull loose under the first heavy cut.
  • Base poured from the catalogue drawing rather than the drawing for your specific model. Blade length and table length change the footprint.

Get the drawing for the exact model before the civil work starts. It arrives with the order documents, not after shipping.

2. Power supply

The Q91Y range runs from about 48 kW to 333 kW installed. That is not a plug-in load. Check three things before the machine is ordered:

  • Capacity — can the site supply the total connected load, including the baler and the lights?
  • Voltage and frequency — 380 V / 50 Hz is standard; 440 V / 60 Hz is available but must be specified at order, not adapted on site.
  • Cable and protection — the cable size and the breaker rating come from the motor data, not from whatever cable is already in the trench.

3. Lifting and access

A gantry shear is a wide, heavy load. Before it arrives, confirm:

  • the lifting equipment on site can take the machine weight at the radius you will actually use
  • the truck can reach the foundation — a shear that has to be moved twice costs more than the crane
  • the container can be unloaded where the ground is firm enough to work

4. Site layout

The machine needs more than its own footprint:

  • Loading table length — long material needs room to be laid down and pushed in
  • Discharge side — where the cut material goes, and how it gets to the baler
  • Material handler reach — a grab or magnet has to be able to feed the table without repositioning constantly
  • Maintenance access — blade changes and hydraulic service need space that is not filled with stock

5. Consumables and spares

Blades wear. Seals fail. The machine will not stop for either if you have a set on the shelf. When you order, ask for:

  • one spare blade set
  • a seal kit
  • the hydraulic filter part numbers
  • the pump and valve model numbers, written into the order documents

Those four items cost far less than a week of downtime, and they are cheapest when they ship with the machine.

A pre-arrival checklist

Item Confirmed before shipping
Foundation drawing for the exact model Received and poured
Concrete cure time Complete before setting the machine
Total connected load Within site capacity
Voltage and frequency Specified at order, not adapted later
Lifting plan Equipment and radius checked
Discharge route Clear to the next machine
Spares Ordered with the machine

Questions we get before delivery

Who does the installation?

Local labour, usually with remote guidance from the factory. Our scope covers the machine, the drawings, the packing and the documents — installation and commissioning are quoted separately and performed locally.

Can the machine be delivered later than planned?

Yes, within the production slot. What you cannot do is store a gantry shear on a dirt lot for a month — it needs a firm, level surface and the crate should stay closed until the foundation is ready.

How long does commissioning take?

Usually a few days once the foundation is cured and the power is connected. The long pole is almost always the civil work, not the machine.
